| Snieder teaches a workshop on career skills to academics in Saudi Arabia | |||
Roel Snieder was invited as a guest presenter to lead a workshop on January 23-25, 2012 at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Prof. Snieder will lead a workshop called "Career Skills for Academics" for KAUST faculty, post-doctorate students and teaching assistants. His workshop will focus on providing scientists with practical skills needed in a successful research career, as well as developing effective research habits and teaching skills. His workshop will also integrate lessons and perspectives found in his book, The Art of Being a Scientist. |

| Jeff Godwin successfully defends his MSc thesis | |||
On December 9, 2011, Jeff Godwin successfully defended his MSc thesis at the Colorado School of Mines. His thesis is titled "Blended source imaging by amplitude encoding." Jeff joined CWP after graduating from the Colorado School of Mines in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degee in geophysical engineering. He worked on his thesis under the direction of Paul Sava, his CWP advisor. Jeff's research interests include: microseismic event location, medical imaging and unconventional geophysics. Congratulations, Jeff! |

The Center for Wave Phenomena (CWP) at the Colorado School of Mines supports a graduate level interdisciplinary research and education program in seismic exploration, monitoring and wave propagation. The main focus of the CWP program is on seismic modeling, imaging, and inversion methods, as well as on improving the accuracy and efficiency of seismic processing algorithms, especially for application to regions of structural complexity. CWP, established at the Colorado School of Mines in 1984, is partially supported by an international consortium of 30 oil and service companies as well as various government agencies. We are housed in the Geophysics Department in the Green Center with state-of-the-art computational facilities. The principal investigators and faculty are Dave Hale, Paul Sava, Roel Snieder and Ilya Tsvankin, as well as Norm Bleistein (CWP co-founder & university emeritus professor) and Ken Larner (university emeritus professor). We invite you to browse these pages to learn more about the CWP faculty and students and about our research and Consortium Project. |
